About Us—Asset Management and Global Investing Opportunities

Fisher Asset Management, LLC does business under this name in Ontario and Newfoundland & Labrador. In all other provinces, Fisher Asset Management, LLC does business as Fisher Investments Canada and Fisher Investments. Fisher Investments was founded in the United States by Ken Fisher, the longest continuously running columnist in Forbes magazine’s history, and first began managing discretionary assets in 1979 with the goal of always putting clients first.

Fisher Investments Canada and its subsidiaries manage over $358 billion in assets—over $301 billion for private investors, $51 billion for institutional investors and $6 billion for US small to mid-sized business retirement plans. [i] Today, Fisher Investments manages assets for more than 150,000 high net worth individual clients.[ii]

The Fisher group’s primary goal is to help clients achieve their investing goals and objectives through active and personalized asset management—a process supported by a rigorous investing process and proactive, high-touch client service.

Personalized Money Management

Fisher Investments starts with a top-down investing process and the belief that the most important investing decision is your asset allocation—the mix of equities, fixed income, cash and other securities in your portfolio. To determine a personalized asset allocation and portfolio strategy consistent with your goals and objectives, your initial and ongoing contacts will speak with you in detail to understand your complete financial picture. As your circumstances change over time, your portfolio may also need to change, which is one reason we regularly and proactively reach out to clients to reassess needs.

Your Investment Counsellor

As a client, you will be assigned to a dedicated Investment Counsellor who proactively provides education to help ensure your asset management needs are being met. Your Investment Counsellor will call you on a regular basis not only to answer market-related questions you may have but to discuss market events and explain our view of the reasons behind what is happening and any potential portfolio impact. Investment Counsellors also act as your line of communication to the Investment Policy Committee (IPC), the five-member group which makes all investment related decisions in client portfolios.

Your Investment Counsellor is there to help you stay on track in your investing journey, and to help you understand your portfolio and our market outlook. Further, you will have access to resources to help enrich your understanding of the following:

  • Optimizing Your Investments: whether you need capital growth, liquidity or other factors
  • Retirement Planning: pension funds, Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs), Locked-In Retirement Accounts (LIRAs), Retirement Income Funds (RIFs), Limited Income Funds (LIFs), property investment decisions and fixed-interest products
  • Inheritance Planning: trusts and funds
  • Achieving Tax Efficiency: capital gains, income tax allowances and retirement contributions
  • Understanding Financial News and Legislation
